I was wondering what a good bass to begin with was? Currently I have a hand-me-down bass with no serial number or name. I am talking in about the 350-500$ price range... I currently have a 160 watt Crate amp with a 15 inch speaker.
Fender Squier Jazz or Precision, whichever one feels better to you. Both are ideal for beginners, IMO.
Oh yeah, forgot to say, I prefer a P-bass to a Jazz Bass for the type of music I am going to be playing. Thanks for the suggestions.
Fender MIM Jazz or P MTD Peavey Fury Ibanez SR400 Spector Id avoid the squires, the construction and tone are sub-par compared to the mim's imo. theres also: Dean ESP Jackson Alverez but imo these dont sound near as good as the ones ive mentioned above. play as many different brands as you can (even ones not mentioned and let your ears and hands be your guide they wont steer you wrong.
I'll sell you my Ibanez SR800LE for $350 (with the case and straplocks). It's in good condition, I live like 2 minutes from you, as well. It's a p/j. If not, check out Dave Phillips, they have decent prices on MIM Fenders.
