What is a good cheap amp?

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by Pesticle, Mar 31, 2002.

  1. I am faced with the 2nd amp decision that you've all had to make. I need something loud enough to practice with a loud drummer but won't set me back too much. My band is finally gunna do a regular gig... and i don't want to keep borrowing from other bands.

Here is my question to you.. How much are you looking to spend? What type of setting besides practice will you be playing in? (i.e clubs, large halls etc.)

Peavey TNT. I played in a punk band for two years using this. I sold it when our guitarist bought a marshall stack. The guy who has it now play is another (gasp!) punk band and his guitarist has a 100watt Laney stack and it does fine at gigs. Its not ideal for outdoor or large venues but in those cases the sound men usually run you through the PA. I got it for $250 used and its 150watts. I know it has a 300 watt big brother call the Peavey combo or something like that but I never tried it.

Cheap, reliable, pretty good sound = Peavey
