I'm sure you're gonna get a lot of replies but if your looking for a versatile pedal to start with try the Carl Martin the Fuzz! Has all the fuzz sounds you could want with loads of headroom and eq. Just brilliant.

Start sifting through the threads. 2 out of every 10 discussions on the FX jawn are mostly related to fuzz, mostly.

If anyone can name that 'mostly' reference, you win.

  4. aliens right? they mostly come at night, mostly.

NOT the Electro Harmonix Big Muff NYC reissue. That pedal is just sludge all over (however Manny from Primal Scream/ Stone Roses uses one).

The Bass Big Muff is getting a good amount of praise here....

  7. Thanks for the good advice so far. Keep it coming.

Also, do you want balls-out fuzz, low end doom fuzz, high end trebley fuzz, just a little bit o' fuzz...?

  11. I just got the EHX Bass Big Muff and in my opinion, it's an amazing (and pretty versatile) pedal.

answer this before anything. it all depends on what you like. that will also narrow down the best fit pedals for you

yeah bassfuzz.com is a great resource.

And you want a little bit of fuzz? I'd suggest the Electronix MessDrive Hybrid +
I own it and you can get light fuzz and heavy fuzz. It's very versatile.
You just flip on the vintage switch, turn the mess knob down a tad and you can get some great subtle fuzz.

Some versions of the big muff will get you where you want to be for just a little bit of fuzz. The sustain knob controls the insanity on it.

The EHX bass big muff sounds like it would be the most usable for what you want since you can blend in your clean tone. Mostly.

The Pigtronix Disnortion is my favorite. Fuzz plus overdrive and a very cool rotary eq.

  20. Thanks everyone. You have been lots of help so far. I have lots of research to do now.
