How many part changes do you think it takes to have a bass 'hot-rodded'?

"how many licks does it take to get to the center of a........"

That question is a matter of opinon, what parts are being changed, etc.

If you change 5 parts like the strap buttons, knobs, etc. to me that's not hot rodded.

But if you changes the pickups, preamp, neck, etc.

The major parts I would consider hot rodded.

  3. I agree. I look at it the same way I consider hot rodding with cars.

If the parts are purely cosmetic, and can be restored in less then 15 minutes (in most cases) you may not have a hot rod. Unless you have done something very original that really effects the overall tone or look of the instrument.

  4. i hope no one takes this as permission to take a bass and cut it's horns off. i've seen some sad amputated basses.........it never looks any good.
