What is it like to be banned (or what do you think it would be like)?

in the chat last night we started talking briefly about the trolls that came here...now obviously that are banned...but how so? if they try to type in www.talkbass.com ... will it just give an error? will a message pop up saying that they are not welcome at this site?

    anybody know?

they will probably get to this page....then they will try and post and it will say "sorry you have been banned.....yadda yadda"

then when they go to register again(to get around the ban) it probably catches them there as well.

but they can still probably READ the pages.

maybe not, it's possible that as soon as they click on "forums" it says "you have been banned..y.adda yadda"

  6. I really don't think it's that hard to come back if you're banned. There's definitely no way to keep you from accessing the site. I dont' know how it tracks who's banned (in terms of re-registering), but it's probably as easy as clearing out some files or switching computers.

Nah, its harder than that. A specific IP address can be banned. And IP addy is like a home address. No computer from that location can access the site. I think that's how it works...

Someone dosen't know about Hardware addresses. It IS possible to ban IPs, but it is also possible to ban hardware Id numbers(every computer has one, and it's unique) True, you could just use a different computer, assuming it also has a different IP but for the average user, that's pretty much enough.

and if you own a computer, and say your brother does too, do you really think he'd let you use it all the time if you were banned?

  9. Many people have multiple computers (at least two), and for most people, youre ip changes whenever you connect (dialup, cable, dsl all usually do it with exceptions)

  10. You remember that scene in Judge Dread when they revoke his Judgeship and he gets force out of the protective confines of the city?

Or the Justice League episode where Wonder Woman gets banished from the Island of Amazons for bringing men to the island?

I think it'd be sort of like that. You mess around, you get kicked out of the safe confines of the Talkbass haven and are forced into the vicious, unforgiving NETHERNET, full of 8th graders downloading porn on school computers and spamming and trolling tab and guitar forums. No matter where you go, you'll have to deal with people posting inane banter topics like "What's a bad cover by a really bad band?" or "Black is the best guitar color". Not to mention 10 MILLION threads on "What's your favorite punk bassist?" "Rancid is awesome" "Rancid Sucks" "What Cds would you take with you on a desert island?" "Who would you rather have sex with? Jessica Simpson or Christina Aguilera?"

Not to mention the frequent trolling...

"WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO HAVE SEX WITH JESSICA OR CHRISTINA WHEN YOU CAN HAVE IT WITH LISA SIMPSON!?!"

    *insert image of simpson porn*

or a "This is really cool!!11" thread. You open it up and POOF! Hentai/monster stuff/transgender porn.

And you get to meet people who spend all night on message boards and have post counts of 1200 threads in 2 months (most of them being "*so and so band* SUCKS!!!! I had sex with your mom!!"

Personally, I would prefer to live under the protective cover of the Judges that are our Moderators. They're Judge, Jury an Executioner, but they're also cuddly like teddy bears.

God knows I've had my fill of ezboard forums.

  11. My last post was a bit of a non sequitur, but I spent too much time writing it so I won't remove it.

I think if you were to try to log in as a new user it's say something like "This IP address has been marked to be banned" or something.

  17. Once thou hast been bard, thou cannot converse in a normal manner. He hath sound like a shakspearean play.
