Lately, I have seen a few members make posts expressing their frustration with the inane posts and threads in the off topic forum. I have seen complaints about certain types of threads that some find inappropriate for TB. Now, this is certainly not directed at any particular member's comments - voicing our frustration about certain members, certain age groups, and certain types of thread has been somewhat of a recurring theme as of late. I would like to hear some feedback as to what type of off topic threads people find annoying or inappropriate. I'd also like to hear what type of threads people find interesting and fun. While I'm at it, I'll take a minute to try to remind everybody that as far as I know, anything which does not violate the user agreement and is not music related may be posted in off topic. If you are not willing to wade through the garbage posts, you may be happier staying in the bass related forums. Personally I find the ignore feature helps me navigate OT as it seems to be the same members that post junk over and over again. End rant.

im glad you look at it in this way. i too have noticed a ton of complaining in or about certain threads (i had one myself) but i dont think people should go in there and bash the person that started the thread and such. if they dont like it they dont have to read it, or as you pointed out, use the ignore feature (btw what does it do ignore all posts by that person or just threads?) like you said, anything that doesnt violate the user agreement or is music related is fairgame, so instead of people going on crusades because they dont like a particular thread they should just learn to ignore it. i find it disrespectful when people go in and talk trash about a thread or the person who made it, and one of the rules of this place is respect all members. if you cant say something nice, dont say anything at all. :meh:

I read the thread in the lounge forum and honestly I don't see what the problem is. I mean, yes there are alot on meaningless threads here but no one is forcing people to go to OT and read them.

Morbid Curiousity. No one was FORCED to look at that brown recluse bite, but how much you want to bet nearly everyone that opened the thread ended up looking at it(even after the thread starter's profuse and earnest warnings against it)

True, but that's not OT's problem.
BTW I missed that brown recluse bite thread. Can you post a link?

Yeah, but think of this: All the meaningless, inane posts actually cost Paul money. Not a corporation with dollars to spare on a website with over 25,000 registered members. This whole thing is out of pocket, on Paul's dime.

That's what makes me really frustrated and aggrivated more than anything else about these threads.

BTW: are you a teen? Wanna vent? www.bolt.com Free, peers, has major financial backing so you can make all the inane posts you want.

What if there was no off topic? Then we could just talk bass & music here at talk bass. We've got the Lounge so that supporting members could make off topic threads - then if a post is inane, at least the person who made the post paid for some band width. Would that make talk bass better or worse? just a thought.

I think that's actually a growing movement/idea that's being kicked around. I know I would certainly like to see it implimented.

    But that's me.

okay, I'll admit it's not an original idea...but put me on the list of folks in favor of it.

    Add me as well.

When the idea first came from Bruce, I didn't think it was a good idea. Now that I think about it, with the current state of OT and some of the people who have yet to post outside of it (other than "what bass is best for punk"), I think the idea is better and better with every passing day.

This is a bass site. If you come here for free, thats what you should get, a bass site. If you pay extra, you get extra.
