Dang. I voted for Synchronicity I in that list, but I was thinking of II. That's one of the very few that transcends the pop format that they are otherwise sticking to. The combination of the bizarre lyrics and that feedback guitar part does it for me.
That's not to say that he didn't write any number of great pop songs, though.

You know I don't think I've ever thought about why I like that song so much...it just grabbed me the first time I heard it on the radio when I was like 14. And it's held up very well since then.

Fields of Gold is hard to beat. Such a beautiful song; the studio version is exceptionally produced.

As many have said, so many incredible tunes. The summer before my sophomore year of high school I took a sailing marine biology trip. Every Breath You Take: The Singles album had just been released and was one of the only tapes I had with me. I listened to it on repeat on my Sony Walkman, and it changed me. Shape Of My Heart is absolutely haunting. All This Time and Fill Her Up are personal favorites. They opened the show on the 2007 reunion tour with Synchronicity II and was like being in a dream! That entire arena in Cleveland was mesmerized! Great thread!

So many great compositions. Hard to pick. I stuck to his solo career (which I prefer, yes thats heresy). I like the Police but his solo career brought with it more experiments (fusion elements), more killer players, etc. His use of odd time signatures is really great. My Top Choice is Seven Days with Englishman a close second.

Island of Souls (from The Soul Cages my favorite Sting album).

I like every album but his last really good one is Ten Summoner's Tales. He got a little bit too soft and predictable after that for me with only an occasional stand out song on each album after that.

I voted Message in a Bottle because it's perfect from every aspect, but there are so many.

Adding that Sting is easily one of my favourite songwriters... there are some but not that many like him, who were great both in their original band first and as solo acts later. I can count at least 50 songs by Sting which qualify as awesome to me, not something I can do for many other musicians.

Most of "Ghost in the Machine" I find incredible. The first three tracks are amazing to me. I really like mood of the album. "Invisible Sun" deserves a close listen.

Having worn out my CD of Ten Summoner's Tales throughout grade school, I'd have to say that my favorite Sting song is Fields Of Gold. It's a very painful song, yet the lyrics are so poignant you just can't help but listen.
