You know I don't think I've ever thought about why I like that song so much...it just grabbed me the first time I heard it on the radio when I was like 14. And it's held up very well since then.Dang. I voted for Synchronicity I in that list, but I was thinking of II. That's one of the very few that transcends the pop format that they are otherwise sticking to. The combination of the bizarre lyrics and that feedback guitar part does it for me.
That's not to say that he didn't write any number of great pop songs, though.
Adding that Sting is easily one of my favourite songwriters... there are some but not that many like him, who were great both in their original band first and as solo acts later. I can count at least 50 songs by Sting which qualify as awesome to me, not something I can do for many other musicians.I voted Message in a Bottle because it's perfect from every aspect, but there are so many.
I will put forward After The Rain Has Fallen (from Brand New Day). I front a Sting & Police tribute band, although we don't do that song.
Interesting selection you've chosen - I see you went for Synchronicity I rather than Synchronicity II.
