That's one of those "impossible to answer" questions. My opinion, however, will leantowards "My Mistake" by Marvin Gaye & Diana Ross. That song is the TRUE essence James Jamerson. Also, I'd have to give a nod to "Taxman" by the Beatles, for it's solid backbone, until it reaches the bridge. When it does, Macca represents!

I think if i had to chose s chili peppers Song for the Best Bass Riff it would still have to be either Shallow Be Thy Name, Coffer Shop or Funky Crime or possible Apache Rose Peacock...but for me flea might be my inspiration but they best bass riffs come from the hands of Stu Zender of Jamiroquai and "To Young To Die" altho easy to play.is very catchy but my fav bass riff is "What Ever It Is I Just CanT Stop" its soo energy filled and the little licks Stu puts in are fantastic.Other Great Bass songs include

Alanis Morrisette- You Outta Know (flea played)
Nething By No Doubt's Tony Kanal
RATM - Take The Power Back
    RadioHead - Paranoid Android
Jeff Buckley - Lover, You Shoulda come Over

the best bass song that i ever heard was "the basses forum is for instrument related questions. this belongs in the recordings forum" by "learn it, know it, live it."

    here, i know this one.
  7. 'Money' or 'Another Brick In The Wall pt2' by Pink Floyd.
  8. Best bass song ever (and it is just bass!!) in my oppinion is 'norwegian wood' by Victor Wooten.

That song brings tears to my eyes every time i hear it!!

After much deliberation, Ive decided that the best bass song in the "C" directory of "my music" on my "C Drive" is Cake's "Short Skirt Long Jacket"

    *Cake singer*

I want a girl with a short skirt, and a looooooooooooooooooooooooooong jacket.

    Cake singer off*

  13. Maybe "Spain" with Stanley on upright.
Maybe "Three Views of a Secret" by Jaco.
Maybe "Pump It Up" with Bruce Thomas.
Maybe "Rhythm Stick" with Norman Watts-Roy (sp?)

Jaco at his ferocious best.............listen out for the tempo change!........Jaco actually speeds up - forcing the entire band to keep up with him!

The Best: "Sinister Minister" - Bela Fleck and Flecktones (Victor Wooten on Bass)

    Also good songs:
    "Coffee Shop" - RHCP
"U Can't Hold No Groove..." - Victor Wooten
    "Schism" - Tool
  17. "The Real Me," by the Who is a more or less continuous bass rampage.

My other favorite is Jamerson's line on "I Was Made to Love Her." It's kind of repetitive, but Jesus!!

Which reminds me of my other other favorite, "Cissy Strut" by the Meters.

As it happens, I'm listening to "Return of the Space Cowboy". One of the best bass performances ever.
