A Friend of mine asked me this because he has a ’73 Fender P Bass that is 1 5/8” thick a Warmoth body that’s 1 ¾” & another that he was told is a early 70’s body but it’s 1 ½” thick, I’ve yet to see a photo of it if I get one I’ll post but he asked if Fender varied the Body thickness over the years,
    Cheers

im guessing the 1 5/8"s is original finish or stripped carefully and the 1 1/2" was sanded? the warmoths are modern fender thickness which is 1 3/4".

    average pre-CBS is about 1 5/8. 70's should be 1 3/4.

70's arent 1 3/4 either. my 74 jazz and 1980 (s8 serial) are both thinner. the thickest point on my 1980 thick poly finish jazz is 1.68 inches.
