Building an amp, dont want to pay$$$ for BBE or Aphex, I just want whatever that little awesome knob does, as a DIY circuit, or a stompbox.
Just get a graphic and replicate this... Up until about 11 o'clock on the dial the aural enhancer doesn't do any tone shaping, it just boosts the signal.
The Aural Enhancer circuit is a resonance filter and not primarily a tone shaper, like electronically changing the size of a box on an acoustic guitar - resister/capacitor/inductor in a tunable circuit. I believe you can get the actual components off of one of their schematics. They shouldn’t be too pricey, but you’ll need someone to put it together for you. I run a Super Redhead and a Spellbinder Blue, and consider the AE to be an integral part of my sound.
I had a super readhead too, i liked it a lot, but not as much as the blue The enhancer is the Whole thing about SWR for me, I had no Idea it was just basically an eq. I usually end up with that seagull pattern with that kind of eq, What I do is turn up the bad sounds then cut them. EQ doesn't quite do what the enhancer does tho, its different. Close, but something else is happening I dont quite understand, fills it out....makes it richer, juicier..more ...golden? I usually set my AE at about 7 or 8 I think. Thanks. I'll look into the spec s and see if I can isolate the circuit. I have a feeling its tricky
Very different frequency response on that one. A parametric EQ might be a better bet. Boss used to do a three band parametric, but after checking the used prices of those things it'd be cheaper to get someone to build the SWR circuit into a pedal.
