Wondering what everybody is seeing for a Music Scene in your specific Areas? Here in Central Florida mainly classic rock covers, some originals, a little blues and of course parks have work.how about all of you?
Basically around here there are three types of bands making money: 1. "The Jukebox" - Basically your cover bands regardless of decade of music chosen or genre. 2. "The Dylan" - Your "tormented soul with a guitar" singer/songwriter wannabe. Typically found at the head shops, upper scale dining establishment lounges and / or the hole-in-the-wall coffee klatsch. 3. "The Blues Band" - Typical 3 piece (sometimes 4 if they're able to find a keys guy) band playing the same B.B.JohnsonMuddyWolfBuddyHookerLeadHouseHendrixVaughn stuff you've heard a million times. Most of the places to play around here are the sports bars / dining establishment types that want to get the largest crows possible. As such anything outside that is shunned. There is only one place that caters to bands who offer original music (though another is supposedly in the works hopefully). Yeah I'm a little bitter. LOL!
I live in a small town full of pensioners, so there is very little music scene here. Have to go into London to see large bands & the pub music scene died years ago, don't even get open mic nights now.
In Edmonton, Alberta it's a festival city pretty much, got everything from folk to thrash metal, wait a day and something new will come. There's the folk festival, rock festival, lots of the local venues and bars here support the local talent plus some up and come'ers (not sure how to spell that) and of course the big name poop shows. My favorite venue here is the starlite room, it's a building built in 1926 originally as a citadel for the salvation army, but now hosts many bands from around the globe, just watched me obliviscaris and black crown initiate there, and in the basement there was a punk show going on at the same time haha. Never really thought about how diverse this city was for music until now. Thanks for asking the question! And sorry for rambling.
