 Man I hate the internet. Pop-up ads are some of the worst things on earth. I need help solving one particularly annoying problem I'm having:

Every time I try to go to amazon.ca, I'm redirected to some site called 'Internet Optimizer'. So I decided to Google 'amazon', and get in from there, but the same thing happened. It happens with other websites too, and it's really starting to annoy me.

Does anyone have this problem, or know how to fix it?

    Graeme :bassist:

EDIT: This is the link to the website I'm redirected to: Stupid Freakin' Annoying Page

Download anti spyware software such as ad-aware and such.

Run it and it can delete the spyware that you have.

    It's adware.

It's easy to remove, but you could benefit from installing something like spybot.

sounds like adware/spyware kinda thing. get spyware filter (think there's a free dl at microsoft.com). won't solve it completely, but might just get rid of that particular one and provide you with some veriety in the torture! ;)
  5. Get Spybot S&D--Here
    and get Ad-Aware SE Personal--Here

Install and update both, then scan. Should take care of many problems. If you scan in safe mode (tap F8 before Windows loads) you'll probably catch much more spyware and such.

Also, if you use IE, you should use Spybot's immunization function, but it's "teatimer" function is a memory hog.

I second everything that's been said here... and I have an addition:
If you're using I.E. to browse, try using Opera. It blocks *every* pop-up automatically (that feature can be disabled for sites that need popups), and is just a very cool browser. Built in IRC client, e-mail client and such.

  7. I just picked up somethign called Aurora... Spybot, Adware, Hijackthis all can remove it but it ikeeps coming back. Reformat time...

First, thanks for all of your help so far. I deleted the Internet Optimizer dealy, and downloaded Spy-Bot. It says it fixed a few thousand bad files.

So now, when I try to go to amazon.ca, it doesn't go to Internet Optimizer, it goes to the standard IE 'Cannot Find Server' page, which is almost as annoying. Now, is there a way to fix this?

    Thanks again,

    DON'T re-format!

This is the worst spyware I've ever seen. You can go nuts trying to remove it by the usual means.

Download the Security Suite (15 day trial) at http://www.ewido.net/en/. Run this program.

If the infection recurs follow the directions in the following post. This definitely kills it, although it is a manual removal procedure.

  10. 1. Go to internet options and clear your cookies, and your cache.
    2. I would set your privace on medium-medium high, others tend to get in the way of browsing.
    3. Go to advanced options and restore your defaults.
    4. Try Opera or Firefox, both are awesome browsers.
    5. Make sure you check windows update to make sure you have the latest version, etc. etc.
    6. If you had a few thousand problems, you should try scanning with Spybot & Ad-Aware in safe mode, to make sure you catch as many of the bastid bugs as you can.

    Hope one of these works.

Amen, has kept me free of problems for the better part of two years. This combo is the best out there and the best part is it's FREE!
  12. As stated, no need to reformat.
Just do a google search, there are many removal tools available.

Ad-aware and Spybot will not remove this trojan. Nor will Hijackthis help you out. This one is a b*tch.

Please see my post above. You'll save yourself a lot of time.

Get Firefox, Ad-Aware, Spybot, SeakandDestroy, etc.

    SWP ;)
  15. To remove adware or malware, here's the most thorough procedure that I've seen:

Highly technical at spots but the info is exceptionally accurate.

<sigh> guys Spybot & adaware are next to useless these days, a few years ago they were the bees knees but spyware/malware have gotten a lot more sophisticated now (try removing homepage hijackers with spybot and adaware and see how far you get)....oh yeah there's a reason why they're free.

The best thing you can do is make sure you've downloaded all the security updates from microsoft (yeah a bit like closing the barn door after the horses have bolted but if your system is clean this will protect you from "most" potential problems), next install Firefox

now this isnt a be all and end all solution but the firefox browser will block a hell of a lot more than IE and if your infected say by the likes of "spy sherriff" which locks out IE at least you can still access the internet to get help by using Firefox in safe mode.

    other good tools to have..

    Ewido security suite

    Hijack this
(note..only use this tool if you are REALLy REALLY sure of what your doing..this tool was designed primarily to get a log of all suspicious processes running on your computer so that you could post the results to a pro website so they can help you analyse the results).

    Panda active scan
    (only works with IE)

    Trend micro scan

    (firefox version)

    Microsoft antispyware
(only works with win2000/win XP..Win98 users use counterspy..

    hope this helps :)
  18. +1 on the Microsoft Anti-spyware. Ihave this and it found lots of crap that Ad Aware couldnt find and its pretty fast too.
