What is this Warwick Growl?

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by waytoodeep03, Aug 6, 2005.

  1. ON the thumb bass? Anyone have any clips of it?

  2. I remember hearing a short solo thumb bass clip (like 40-50 secs) that would be perfect to 'describe' the thumb growl. Does anyone know of or remember the clip I'm refering to?? I'm a bit sketchy, it was maybe two or three years ago...

311 "Hydroponic", after the fuzzbass, Big Muff intro some very tastey Warwick growl can be heard. Gotta love those 'Wicks!

  4. Well, he is sasking for a clip of the Thumb bass, and if I remember correctly, P-Nut plays a Streamer Stage II... Unless some of you more die-hard 311 fnas know something I don't.

I find that Warwick growl is WAYYY to high-mid rangy/honky sounding. I like smooth with a bit of growl coming from where I pluck.

Any GC will allow you to experience everything Warwick has to offer. Every GC I've ever been to had plenty of Warwicks available.

    :eyebrow:

A Warwick with EMGs maybe. But stock Ws or with other P-ups, then no. That W growl is low-mid, and the high-mids are even a bit recessed.

If it's still the music of The Rock Chart on MTV, then Siddharta's Dice is a fine example

Hey, no badmouthing Wicks please!:) Another good song to hear some good Thumb growl is a song called Straight Hate by Bloodsimple. Check it out if you can...

  9. Bloodsimple... Isnt that the bassist who wheres a Thumb around his knees? Wow, I bet Warwick never saw that one coming!

I don't know what that means....but being that Nick said it, +1  :p

  13. I'm pretty sure its NTB = Nickthebassist... to do with many upon many threads of his search for piledriveingly heavy low growl... I think

The warwick growl is something special, something you wont find on other basses (blatantly).

P-NUT plays Streamer Stage II's, Thumb and Thumb Fretless, and a Bleach Blonde. You're probably right about that song though, he was using the Stage II exclusively back then but it growls just like a Thumb. I bought a Thumb to get his sound annd it pulls it off easily. Gotta love (or hate) those Warwicks!
