What is your favorite cab to match an EA head-other than EA cabs

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by djshawn47, Mar 10, 2006.

  1. I constantly hear that the EA cabs are the best match with an EA head, but i am interested in other cabs for an IAMP-800. What do you have, have you heard that you like?

    Thanks

Had my iAMP-600 with an Epifani 212 (ORIGINAL Side by Side config.) for a while.
Nice combination for fat bottom and sparkle on top.

I'm powering a Sadowsky SA410 with my Iamp 800, and so far, it seems like a very good match.

    big rig,

no doubt, an Acme B4. just massive awe-inspiring punch.

    small rig,

sooo many, but i liked the NL210 the best. clarity, punch, fatness, and warmth. but Berg's smaller cabs get a vote, too. loved my old iAMP-350 / HT112 combo.

Cabs (other than EA) which I have used to great effect with my iAMPs include (in alphabetical order):

    Accugroove (Whappo, Jr.)
    Acme
    Bergantino (both HT and NV)
    Glockenklang
    Hevos
    Sadowsky (probably the best match)

    Tom.

  7. Very interested in this combo...i know people love tube heads with these cabs, but i am curious about this match up.

    Thanks

I love this combination. Yes, the NV cabs sound great with tube heads, but the iAMP 800 matches up extremely well, IME/IMHO. You can drive both an NV610 and an NV215 quite well with the iAMP 800! :bassist::bassist::bassist: :D

I played an iAmp800 into a bergantino HT310 last week, and it was a great combo. Very balanced across the spectrum, no hype. Made me reconsider selling the 310.

IMHO, it was quite a bit better than the iAmp sounded through epifani UL212 and UL410. Better balanced, no holes, and more honest sounding.

  11. +1 iAmp+EpifaniUL is not the optimal combination IMO.

I use my iAMP with a few different Epifani cabs. I like each setup I use.

Oh yes, I would expect it to mate up much better with the HT310.

Has anyone tried an IAMP with a schroeder or is that not a very good mix?

Just curious as I've never had a chance to try any EA gear yet.

I didn't mean to imply that I thought they sounded bad together, just if we're being super picky I thought the bergantino sounded better. The UL410 seemed to weigh about half what the bergantino does!

The iAmp into the HT310 was very impressive, to my ears. The iAmp seemed to breathe some warmth into the HT that was missing when I tried it with other amps.

That's cool man. I was just giving my personal experience. I know the general opinion in these parts is that EA and Epifani don't mix too well together, but it has not been a problem for me. It's not that I think others are wrong, they are probably at a higher level of playing than I am. They can recognize the audible deficiencies when you plug an Epifani into an EA amp. For me, if it works and plays loud, then it is a good match. :D

General opinion should NEVER be considered fact! ;)

FWIW, I've gotten great results with the iamp600, 500 and 800 with Epi T-212, T-112 and T-310 cabs, in various combinations. Good cabs and good amps often sound...good together. :eyebrow:
