The title kinda says it all. What is your favorite off the shelf active preamp that has a three band EQ (treble, mids, low) that has some kind of frequency selection for the mids (push pull knob, stacked sweep, internal dip switches, etc.)? Why do you like it?
I'm kinda curious to see what sort of responses you get here, as I'm in search of a preamp/EQ with a lot of flexibility in the midrange. The only off-the-shelf model with mids I've used is the Bartolini NTMB, which I absolutely love in the bass I put it in, but I'm hesitant to suggest that's an unabashed recommendation because so many other things probably contribute to what it is I love about that particular bass. (There definitely seems to be a symbiosis between the Bart preamp and the Bart pickup though, fwiw.) But for another bass right now I'm currently debating between an EMG BQC System that has 1 midrange band with continuously variable center frequency, and a Mike Pope Flexcore preamp that has 2 midrange bands with 2-position center frequency select switches per band.
I tried that one once in a pretty high end Spector, matched up with EMGs. Of course it sounded like a Spector so it is hard to know what the pre sounded like. I didn't hate it though. I haven't looked to closely at the Pope stuff.
Ah, here it is, not sure how I missed it: EMG Pickups / BQS System / Bass EQ Active / For Bass / Accessories / Electric Guitar Pickups, Bass Guitar Pickups, Acoustic Guitar Pickups Dang, if it only didn't have the pot stuck right on the board, I could use it in my Ibanez Premium...
