  1. I'm sure most of play other instruments. Most bassists started out as guitarists, plus there's a lot of you who play drums as well. What's your second instrument?

This would be second to my basses. I started on Sax before bass, guitar came a few years later.
  4. Actually, bass is my second instrument, I'm mainly a keyboardist.

I came to bass from keyboards 'cos when I was a teenager and had bands in high school we had no bass player, so I did the bassline on my left hand on another keyboard. So in a way I was already a bassist (just not a bass guitarist), since I knew the concept of basslines.

I did always think bass was cool, even when I was in jr. high I wanted to play bass, though. I always dug basslines from those '80s bands, especially from the UK. And I always thought slapping was fascinating.
I even made a stupid fake Steinbeger-type bass out of a stick of wood and string and nails (don't laugh). No, there were no electronics on it. I was also gonna get a bass for a high school graduation present, but I decided on a sampler instead.

Later on, I was playing in bands and kept on complaining about the bass player. After all that, I thought, "Well if I keep complaining about the bassist, damnit, I'd better learn bass myself."

So after I graduated college in '95 while working my first job out of school I decided to buy a bass. I found a Stingray5 on consignment at a bass store for a SWEET price. The rest is history.

  8. I started out a bass player and played in high school jazz band and march drums then my junior year I picked up tuba, I also doubled on basson in college, I also play guitar o.k. and drums o.k. , but I will always be a bass player at heart.

Classical guitar is my secondary instrument.
  11. I play drums too, but I don't think of it as a secondary instrument....
  12. Guitar. Either a Fender Strat or Taylor 314CE...not sure which gets more playing time.
  13. Guitar, followed by drums, but now it's starting to get intimite.. mmm...melodies...
  14. I vote Bass is my only instrument, as I play electric & double bass although I will begin to try to learn some piano/keyboard playing soon
  15. I would say drums, but bass is slowy become secondary to those.

Been a drummer for 17 years, started playing bass 16 months ago and now I consider drums my secondary instrument. It's crazy I just kind of took to bass.
