    what is a 4-string passive bolt-on bass ?

    Welcome to Talkbass!

    Ok, I hope this is not a Troll alert :D

    1. 4-string: a bass with 4 strings, standard tuning E,A,D,G

    2. Passive - passive electronics (pickups and EQ) without a power source (e.g. battery)

    3. bolt-on: neck is bolted on the bass body with screws, as opposed to neck-tru: neck with 2 body parts attached at either side, or set-neck: neck glued to the body.

    Examples for a 4-string passive bolt-on:

    Fender Jazz bass, Fender Precision bass
