What kind of bass did Sal Governale use on the Howard Stern band audition?

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by Spirit of Ox, Dec 23, 2014.

  1. I was listening to the best of Howard Stern 2014. The staff members were auditioning for the new Losers (Howard's joke band).
Sal played bass and sounded pretty decent for a novice level player. The bass he was using sounded pretty killer. It had a humbucker towards the bridge type sound but not like a Stingray more like and Ibanez Musician or Aria. Does anyone know what he used? He is a big Kiss fan and it could've been a Grabber with the pickup slid back.

I was listening to this as I read your post! Don't know what he was playing, sorry, but I'm glad to hear another Stern fan on TB. Hey now.

  3. Yeah cool! Fred was wrong about him playing Sunshine in 3 keys. He was trying to do the chorus but he was off. But Richard kills on drums! He's a monster. Sal and Richard are just awesome anyways. F Jackie!!

Richard is a great drum player and to me it sounded like a Ray? If its a Ibby I would love to know which one? I was curious about the amp as well. I think the funniest thing this week is when they fooled Sal into thinking his Christmas songs were good and Howard was going to promote a concert for him they had me fooled I thought it was terrible man that was too funny. :)

  8. Sounded funny for Jazz bass but I knew that's what they used to use back in the K-Rock days where Jackie, John, and sometimes Fred would fill the bass roll.

I think Fred is the best bassist, but he mostly played guitar in the Losers. John was alright, but he was no great shakes, either. Still, he was way better at bass than Howard is at keys...sheesh, no wonder his piano teacher committed suicide!

    The money for singing lessons?

    :D

Actually, she's not without talent, but her songs are not good and she doesn't have what I call a "lead voice." She would make a good keyboard player/background singer in someone else's band.

Can't remember but it was some semi-famous band like that. But she got the toss just as they were about to have a hit single, whoever it was.

If you click 'visit show', scroll down you will see Sal with the black Jazz. I liked the way that bass sounded also. I would not have thought it was a Jazz. Wonder what year? Been around since K-Rock so probably over 5 years old at least.

  18. Bababooey to you all... I was listening to the repeat yesterday... the losers never did get off the ground again. Pretty sure Howard got more interested in paining than guitar.

  19. Elisa was in Cobra Starship and was on a VH1 reality/singing competition show. It was a cross between real world and the voice... cool show only lasted 1 season and Elisa only made it about 4 weeks in

That guy with the natural Jazz is a dude from The Tapes team named Jeremy, not Jason. Jason is much uglier and fatter ;)
