My 1999 Fender USA Hot Rod P-Bass and 2015 Squier James Johnston Jazz Bass
I have been playing a fretless Fender Jazz Bass since 1976. This year I bought a fretted P bass. 2 weeks ago I bought my first upright. Tomorrow I have a gig where all I'm bringing is the upright. The tone of the monster is so cool that there is a good chance I'll be putting the Fenders in the closet unless it's raining( I drive a pickup truck)
My Carvin XB75 and Fender FSR Antigua Precision.Considering getting into the fretless world.
Makes a great thumb rest...
What is this body style called?
What is the purpose of the upper attached wing?
It's mostly aesthetic, but some players say the additional body mass helps tone (doubtful) or balance (quite possibly).
Asthetic? Really? I think that look is terrible.
I was really thinking it served a better purpose than just looks...
Wow.. never assumed there were so many 4 stringers vs 5.
Perhaps only jazz guys play 5.. Go figure why people mind to have a low B handy at all times.
I just think it would be cool to have a B to play with. You can always ignore it, until you want it.
I have this on its way to me.
Rickenbacker 4001's (4001CS & 4001v63). Both use Rick-O-Sound exclusively. Both are stock, apart from the vintage reproduction wiring harnesses. I like the necks and the tones. I cheat and use MOOG bass pedals for the low-low stuff.
[EDIT]- Added another 4001v63
4 strings Fretted ( F Jazz)
5 strings Fretted and fretless ( Ibanez BTB Fretted and Godin A5 Fretless)
6 string fretless (Lutherie Bass)
The Am. Std. Fretless with the ETB92 Nylons.
My fretted MTD535 is my main bass, followed by my '65 fretless Pbass, and occasionally the Lightwave fretless 5
Since my last post in January 2016 my DIY conversion experiments have continued and I've switched completely over to using basses made converting relatively inexpensive 24-3/4" scale guitars. My most frequently used bass is this conversion of an Ibanez AF55 hollowbody guitar:
I now live in the four string world.
Love the waste bin of pedals.
Totally unintentional but very apropos. (had to look that one up)
Very elegant. My first impression was "A bass wearing a tuxedo"
