Howdy, Y'all! I'm a keyboard player with an interest in bass guitar, and plenty of time on my hands thanks to COVID-19. So now I'm working on toughening up my fingers, learning bass! It's great, and I'm learning how to play convincing bass lines on a keyboard (I'm in a band with no bass player, so I play left-hand bass and right-hand piano/etc) Peavey Unity 4 string, passive, charcoal grey, bought new in 1994 Teton acoustic/electric 4 string, bought new in 2020 on order - Godin A4 Ultra SA
A keyboard playing the bass lines ? I know a band who did it (greatly): Nice basses you got to begin with !
I've considered buying one of those, the original guy in The Hollies played one. I just can't imagine playing bass with a pick which due to string spacing seems a must. Anyway, back on topic, I always thought if 4 was good enough for PC and Jaco, its more than good enough for me.
You can play the Bass VI with your fingers, it just takes some adjustment. But they really come alive with a pick. I use a pick on mine and have LaBella DTFs and Staytrems on both...
Main work bass is a 04 Fender Am Dlx J V, with Nordstrand NJ5's and Nordstrand 2 band pre. Had Nordstrand reshape the neck to better specs. Backup is an early Heartfield 5 (thank you Fender) with Nordstrand electronics. 60 P bass, 64 Jazz, 74 P bass. Cheap old Jasmine (Takamine) hollow body with LR Baggs Element pickup. Great recording and live amplified bass. Soon to have an Acinonyx "Cat" short scale.
You should add "String Bass" and "Electric String bass" to the poll. There are so a few of its out there.
So I am not a professional by any means, but I am the glue that holds my husband/wife band together. I barely ever use my B string when playing alone, but because my wife loves the heaviest of Metal I really appreciate having it when I need it. {} And I love my super basic FNA for whatever my wife throws at me, and I also can play what funky stuff I like. Because I’m Bootsy Collins, and she’s John 5
I just voted for the first time, and I’m pretty sure it won’t change. I have an Ibanez SR400FL and Fender American Performer Precision. I definitely have a thing for the P/J config.
I've just voted for the first time (I checked). I voted 4, 5 and 6 string fretted, though the split is probably 10/40/50% respectively. I plan on adding a Harley Benton B550FL 5 string fretless soon and would love a 10 string doubled, but they never seem to show up near me, affordably, or when I have cash to spare.
Current favourite is a Hagstrom 8 string (doubled) with a 7 string Harley Benton when I want a bit more range.
27 votes for "doubleneck 7-string fretted/7-string fretless" smells like "voting often" to me... but maybe that bass has changed hands 26 times.
