I can't tell what type of bass Jeff Ament is using in this video. Here's the link: .http://www.pearljam.com/tourclips.html Click on the 'Animal' video, and you're there
Mike Lull has been making much of PJ's gear, so my guess is it's a Lull custom. He has another J clone than has a Warmoth neck and parts from Bartolini and some builder in Washington. Embellisher or JMX may know for sure.
Well, thanks for the props rickbass1, but I'm really not familiar with Lull basses (never seen one in Germany). What throws me off is the Fender-style headstock, I doubt Mike Lull does those, but maybe he does for custom basses.
JNX - Yeah, Lull does. In fact, one of the most recent Bass Players reviewed his Precis-clone. You and Jeff know the nuances of so many basses, I don't limit you to just one continent!
Well, you can't know everything, do you? Although I'm trying I haven't seen a ML bass in Germany yet, and I can't travel across the Atlantic just to check one out (although I'd love to check out some Conklins). And most U.S. brands like Lull or Sadowsky carry too much Fender heritage in their models for my taste.
It's definitely not a Modulus. My guess is it's a warmoth body (a guitar body fitted for bass is what it looks like) with a warmoth neck, probably put together and wired up by a local luthier. He's had a couple of those made.
You guys should ask me stuff more often: It was set up by Lull, but It's a Warmoth body, Moses Graphite neck, Bartolini Pickups, Badass Bridge.
I've got an early Lull that's made from Warmoth parts and has the Fender-style headstock. I think all of the early Lulls were that way.
a couple sites, but mostly concert videos: http://www.sonymusic.com/artists/PearlJam/gear/index.html and http://www.angelfire.com/la/ament/ i gave a lot of info to the second one...note that this bass does NOT appear in the first site, that is because the diagram is from their previous tour (all the other stuff is pretty much the same, though) Oh...anyone would mind donating some cash to the "I need Jeff's Gear" fund?
