Like is this a real deal cirrus? I cant really even tell by looking at it, sorry I just know that I have played peavey basses like this at music stores and really enjoyed them. They were significantly more expensive, but this one is a while out so I'd actually like to know what it is before I consider buying it... http://baltimore.craigslist.org/msg/3913606441.html
Appears to be a Peavey Grind 6 import (made in Viet Nam, maybe?). They weren't that expensive new...do a little research re: used value(s). Edit: just read your previous post. Might not be a bad buy for a first 6 string if it plays decently and the price is right. Riis
I don't know about that crack that is detailed in the photos I would be wary of any structural damage on a neck-thru instrument, especially since the crack extends into the neck's laminates. Could it may become a major repair issue down the road?
As Zooberwerx said, it's a Grind. But that crack!? Good Lord! That is a serious issue. I imagine that the repair tech told the owner not that it's nothing to worry about, but that it's not worth fixing. I wouldn't touch that bass at any price.
I understand that that six string bass has one lower and one higher string and the standard four in the center. What are people exactly saying about basses with the extra strings? Is the higher string hard to play, strung too tight? Or are they special strings, especially made for bass? Or taken from guitar strings? It reminds me of a pro to type five string viola I bought years ago...grin grin...what I didn't realize was that the higher extra string was basically off of a violin and I could not get it to tune because it would obviously just break...too tight and it was all too ridiculous. The rest of it was awesome though. As far as the Peavey guitars...I think they are basically great. Biased here, though.
Peavey Grind 6. I just got one today great bass for the price, and it really seems to lend itself to upgrades. I got it on an absolute steal with this in mind; I'm going to put in an active preamp and pickups when I get the chance. That crack is worrying, though. Anything around the neck on any stringed instrument should set alarm bells off.
