Sounds like a lot of stuff I heard in the early 80’s, but without much direction. In other words, nothing new, in spite of its futuristic(/retro?)aspirations. At least outfits from DAF and The Normal to Depeche Mode, Sisters of Mercy, and Ministry(and so on)were able to fashion songs out of that kind of rhythmic content. “Warm Leatherette” might have been essentially just one note, but at least it had a hook.
That seems closer? It doesn't seem to be trying to be a song in the conventional sense. It's like something you might hear drop at a warehouse party instead.
Synth pop. For an actual example from the 80s, look up Harold Faltermeyer or Thomas Dolby. Both of whom are way better at it than the guys who uploaded that.
Mmmmmmmm, I'm not hearing it. That stuff is a bit hokey and one-dimensional in terms of mood. It seems to be straying a bit more into synthwave territory (closest I got so far). Made me think of this: and even this crew?
I don't think it sounds like them(synthwave). To me it's a mix of detroit techno and ebm (electronic body music). But there are some elements of both styles in synthwave
The opening rhythm reminds me of older Nitzer Ebb. The rest of the composition makes me think of projects from the Wax Trax Records catalogue. I like it.
I don’t think it would be totally inaccurate to call that synthwave, though it’s a little less aggressive than what I’m used to hearing from that genre. I’m gonna go with trancewave.
