What kind of music has the best Bassists?

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous [BG]' started by JustStartin, Jun 28, 2003.

  1. Which type of music has the best bassists? Personally I think it would be Ska/Reggae. What do you think? I would usually use a poll, but since I am an Uber n00b, I don’t know how...So, here are your choices.

    1. Ska/Reggae
    2. Jazz
    3. Blues
    4. Rock
    5. Hardcore
    6. Other
The other category is anything else that you think of. However, if you choose Other, please state what type of music it is that you think.

you should have posted a poll. but, if I have to say, it'd be jazz. Stuff like Norah Jones comes to mind. It's the slow relaxed basslines like that that are just so cool. To just sound so relaxed with the line that it seems like it could be played for days.

  3. Well, i would have done a poll, if i werent such a darn n00b, maybe the mod. people can help us out with that.

I would have to say Jazz.
Most professional Jazz bassist really know their theory. They pretty much need to know how to improvise on the spot.
Also, session players have to know everything all the time. They need to know variouse types of music and theory. They need to be able to walk in a studio, lay down a track(s) to someone else's music and walk out with out wasting any time.

Definately ska, because the basslines are most fun IMO. Following close behind is progressive.

In theory, yeah, but taste and preference is all-- some guys can play slow lines for years, I fall asleep after about ten minutes.

Yep. Not necessarily in that order, but that's where most of the best are.
