....and very intimidating to me. But, holy cow, it's friggin' awesome! Now I make good original music with my band, and have fun doing it, but I have nowhere near the chops that it takes to play like this.

    The song:

    The bass cover:

Is it jazz? Something else? Something alien?

    What is it?
Music to annoy old people, but ironically it’s trickled down from prog like King Crimson, Zappa, fusion, funk, new wave, math rock, and so on. While you’re at it, check out Animals As Leaders, Polyphia, Elaphant Gym, Black Midi, Covet/Yvette Young…all similar but different.

Here is a live performance of this amazing/original group - IMFO, of course.
    Thanks.

Here is another beautiful Knower tune - they are not just one-trick ponies.
    Crash The Car.
    IMFO, of course.
    Thanks.

I've been listening to them a lot in the past few months since seeing that song came up in my youtube feed.

I would probably call it Jazz Fusion as sort of a broad umbrella. More specifically I would probably call it electronic dance music with a focus on being played by live musicians/music school nerds.

Even more specifically I would say that this recent album seems to be an evolution based on what gets youtube hits. Their earlier stuff seems a lot more programmed/electronic, and they have some videos where those songs got reworked to play live, that I would guess were successful.

I hope more people of all ages find Knower.
    Thanks.

Let me watch it again in the morning. I'm not too sure what it is that I just seen. Is that Punk / Jazz and very well done.. I don't believe i've thought along those lines before. The lyrics / singer started to get on my nerves. One of us needs their meds (I'll go first). But now, that young man doing the bass cover did an excellent job. He was all over it... 3 thumbs up to him.

I hear a direct genetic connection between Knower's OVERTIME (above) and this recording (below) from 1975.
    IMFO, of course.
    Thanks.

  16. Hyper shoegaze electronica ?

I saw that vid a few months ago. Was into that stuff in the 80-90's, bands like My Bloody Valentine, Cocteau Twins, Velocity Girl, Madder Rose, Innocence Mission, Sundays, Free Kitten, Belly, Autoclave, Helium, Sonic Youth, probably more--- but i am old, cannot remember.

The genre Future Funk comes to mind also.

Never heard of them until just now. Nerd Prog Pop? Whatever. They’re going for something, and they’re fun.

Well, Knower is actually close to 40, so his music might appeal to you.

Holy poopie that's killer - thanks for posting.

I like the studio stuff but they absolutely smoke live.
