.......would this combination of features yield?

A Precision bass (w/ possible added J pup?)
    A fretless ebony fingerboard
    Roundwound strings?

I suppose a followup question would be, what would the ebony fingerboard add to the equation, and would roundwound strings not give a sweet sounding mwah out of this combination? (the main reason for the ebony board is looks + hardness, so the rounds could mwah but not eat the board?)

I'm looking into building my own Warmoth, for those curious.

I had rounds on an ebony board on my Carvin fretless 6. It was nice.
  3. Well, from what I heard... rounds are what actually give off that "muah" from a fretless board.

But do you get the "muah" as Ebony is one of the hardest available woods for fretboard and is tonally brighter then MAPLE!! dont let the black stuff confuse you!! its BRIGHT... think warwick thumb kneck throu. id say get yourself some nice old Brazilian Rosewood! like most fretless's

Huh, tonally brighter than maple you say? really? didn't know that...! I guess the black did throw me off, coupled with the sound of double basses that's so deep and boomy.

I just want a hardwood that won't get eaten alive by rounds.
