Well with Superhero movies now being the talk of the town I figured it to be fun to talk about what kind of superhero movie we would like to see. My problem with Super hero movies (because I used to collect the comics) is that they get the characters wrong. The Person I'm about to name is a clear example of that. I have a weakness for the "Underestimate this girl at your own peril" kind of superheroes. So with me, it's Jubilee without a doubt. Jubilee is a girl in her mid teens who's short, shouty, bratty, a total tomboy, but when she cuts loose is extremely powerful. She appeared in the cartoon series, the "Generation X" movie and in the background of almost every X-men movie but they didn't get her right. Because in those series she's portrayed as a little girl who constantly needs supervision and is living in a foster home. Jubilee and Wolverine in the X-men Cartoon series. Jubilee in "Generation X" Jubilee in "X-men" I found the explanation on why her character was changed when I started reading the old issues of the comic series. The role Jubilee had in the cartoon series was actually Kitty Pryde's but because of Pryde not being a regular character in the issues back then, they used Jubilee instead and gave her Pryde's mannerism The Jubilee they SHOULD make a movie about is the Jubilee who was orphaned, lived on the streets, fought, stole to survive and basically was a tough girl. One of Jubilee's earliest appearences, stealing to survive. But as tough, sassy and streetwise as she was, she still had a lot of pent up grief over the loss of her parents, her being homeless and not having a normal childhood a side that would only came out when being with her surrogate dad. Jubilee had this close Father-Daughter bond with Wolverine, so maybe she should appear in a movie of the Wolverine franchise. The scene where Jubilee first encounters Wolverine, I can so see this in a movie. Again though, in every appearance Jubilee played the role of Kitty Pryde, in "Generation X" the movie Emma Frost and Banshee pick her up at her foster parents house and that tough "If I say jump you say 'How high?'" 'tude, that the streetwise Jubilee from the comics had in spades, wasn't there at all.
Me, I would like to see a "proper" Batman movie made, I.E. one made as close as possible to the comics, with the style , sensibility and respect that messrs. Dini and Timm showed with their animated Batman.
Yeah I agree. They should make it in a Noir style. Maybe doing it in Black and white completely. I don't know if you ever read the Batman "Crimson mist" special but Batman says something truly epic to Scarecrow. "You think you know fear Crane? You think you know true terror? You know NOTHING!"
A Punisher movie that doesn't suck. War Zone had moments of brilliance with unwatchable parts in between, the previous two were worse. Actually, I think The Punisher would make a great 1hr TV drama. Lots of smaller battles, it could take its time to develop the complexity of the character, set up villains etc. Perhaps the 1:45 movie format is what kills any hope of a well-developed Punisher.
I'd agree with that. Though I must admit, I quite liked the Tom Jane Punisher film (prefer it over Warzone and Dolph's version), even if it wasn't canon with the comics. It had a good mixture of darker sections with comic humour. The Max-reimaging is probably more movie-friendly, though an original Punisher type of psycho would be good. I'd like a Deadpool film, apparently one in the works, but I hope it's a proper imagining of Deadpool, not the Deadpool in the Wolverine : Origins film (though it's still Ryan Reynolds)...
One where all the Superheros, zombies, pirates, and ninjas go back to being the realm of children along with cartoons and people over 18 develop a modicum of adult maturity
That sounds like a new superhero, I'm not familiar with. What sort of costume does The Straight Man wear? But more importantly: What would his alter ego be?
Well I'm waiting for a Justice League movie. And I'm hoping it won't suck. I don't like Superman though. Maybe it's un-American, but he's a super hero I'm really not a fan of. I somewhat enjoyed seeing him get beat down by a 50 or 60-something year old Batman in The Dark Knight Returns. (Both the original comic and the animated movie adaption.)
From this post alone, I'd say you aren't all that familiar with adult maturity. A truly mature adult wouldn't insult others for their taste in what they find entertaining. This whole attitude that all the things you mentioned are for children only is about as archaic an attitude as you can get.
i'd love to see some of my favorite ANIMÈ characters come to the silver screen! Crying Freeman, FTW...
Would love to see a superhero movie that didn't follow the exact same formula. The 3 Nolan Batman movies were genius, but they were crime caper drama movies with a Batman problem. The Avengers sucked. The last two HULK movies sucked. Oh GOD did Thor kinda really suck. Captain America was a passable flick, same formula. And I'm just yanking that franchises chain, there have been many other awful superhero movies.
"Ghost Rider" done properly would be nice. One thing in particular, his motorcycle makes no noise. Something they couldn't get right but a late 70's/early 80's Disney movie "The Devil and Max Devlin" did. Couldn't find a clip online but in "Max Devlin" Bill Cosby (the Devil) comes up to speak to max riding on a motorcycle that doesn't make any sound.
