What Kind of Varnish for use in Tung Oil Finish?

Discussion in 'Luthier's Corner' started by IronSpatula, Sep 24, 2005.

  1. After doing some research in this forum I've decided to use an oil/varnish mixture rather than pure tung oil on my current project (I want the finish to have a hard, smooth satin feel). But here's the thing: I already have pure tung oil and thinner. What kind of varnish would you all recommend for mixing something up myself (or is that a bad idea), and where can I find it?

    Thanks for your help.
