Im having a hard time figuring out what klira bass i have because i cant find anything with klira written that way. Anyone have an idea? Thanks so much
That is a Klira hollow body short scale bass from the early '70s. looks like solid spruce top to me. yay!
Klira Twen Star, definitely not a 500/1, which is a Hofner model number. Given the bolt-on neck, it is a later Twen Star model 356 - made in '67 or '68. The earlier set-neck Twen Star was the model 162. They're amazingly cool, and a funky alternative to the ubiquitous Hofner.
Ok. Thanks is there not a lot of this model floating around? I couldnt find headstock written like that. Thanks for your response I just joined basstalk today and really enjoying it
Welcome to TB Matthew! Given Klira was not a huge volume manufacturer, tended to change specs often, and given that production ended in '68 (so that the percentage of surviving basses may not be huge), your bass is pretty rare, though not necessarily a super valuable collectible. It definitely has a dedicated fanbase in any event. Eastwood have just launched their take on the Twen Star, which is a tribute of sorts. I have been keeping an eye out for one for years but they rarely ship down to Australia. Regarding the headstock, there were quite a few different versions of both the headstock and the logo, so there are probably only a few with your exact specs.
Fantastic bass. I had one for a looong time and just returned it to its original owner. Play the heck out of it!
