From what i have seen rejection, lack of continual love and consistent disappointments over the course of a lifetime seem to be some of the factors with the people i have met. What would you think?.

it also has to do with the kind of person they are regardless of how the've been treated but mostly it's what you listed
  3. Thats why hugs were invented! No one can resist a nice good hug, especially when they don't look like they want to be touched.

add being screwed for someone else's mistake, or just to cover someone else's butt.

The general public make me a bitter person. When I am in a crowd in town it feels like I am surrounded by idiots. And when people do really well in life despite being useless and lazy, while people who work hard seem to not get as far.

But mainly it is people. Dumb people.

Life inevitably causes bitterness. There are only two cures: death, and kittens. :)

When I find people to be bitter I've found that a little salt and pepper helps.

I'm a very bitter person, so I can confirm this. The fact that I am ugly, stupid, make stupid mistakes, and feel sick all the time doesn't help either.

from my experiences a degree of loss can cause a great deal of bitterness from all.

Also recoginizign that people are dumb, of course solitary persons under the right conditions can prove intellegent, a mass of people can be very stupid. -See also, President Bush.-

It didn't help at the time that I was taking a medication for acne that caused SEVERE DEPRESSION....no that didn't help much

I used to be a very angry bitter person.....honestly...sometimes I miss it.

The root of bitterness is a sense of entitlement. :D

Followed thereafter, by the inevitable intrusion of reality upon one's dreams.

But it's how we deal with it that counts, right? :)

For the most part, I find that people are selfish, insecure, and petty.

Maybe that's part of the reason I'm currently considering a different career path than psychology? I'm pretty cynical about human nature to begin with.

Honestly though, and in the words of the late, great Robert Calvert:

'I don't like to be too serious - I think if you were too serious about being alive...it would just be too serious for words.'

The only things you can get from being bitter are ulcers.

Well I would say we are all talking about different things - there is a big question here :

    Define : "Bitter"

So we could be talking about somebody who is :

    Severely depressed
Has had a life of losing loved ones apparently unecessarily,
    Slightly annoyed
Healthily cynical about the state of the world
    World weary

    etc. etc.

It's just a very vague term that is used lazily by people to describe a wide range of conditions!! :meh:

What makes me "bitter" are people who generalise widely on no factual basis!! ;)
