my gf has that bass only it's natural and I've never found anything on it either. It'll be interesting to find out though!

It looks like it might be the Newport series. From 1961-1968 they were made in the USA. Then from 1977-1979 they were made in Japan. USA ones are worth about $1,000 near-mint. Japanese ones are about $350 near-mint.
I used to have one of those and the tone ruled but the neck gave me hand cramps. I can't remember the name of that model though.
