so i found cheap ibanez with basstech and MEC pickups. guy who's selling it doesn't know what model the bass is or anything else. he bought if from a friend who bought it from a guy who modded it. since the price is cheap (considering the pickups), i was wondering, can anyone at least guess the model or the wood of used for body. doesn't look like basswood to me. what confuses me is this; neck looks like cheap sr180/200 series body is one piece, as far as i can tell ( WUT?!) tuners are part black and part chrome bridge looks cheap bass looks old. i'd be sure it was some cheap ibanez but tuners and body wood are confusing me.
By modded you mean probably broke whichever neck was connected to that body originally. It soes look like the neck was from an el cheapo but a 1pc body (looks maybe ash or maple) would not be on a cheapo, maple is currently a mid-line body for ibby. Is it veneered top and bottom? The factthatthe tuners are two colors almost convinces me at some point the modder had two neck to play with. The painted stripe? Srsly? Also, I would be damn sure the pickups were not jacked up or had their leads cut too short before I considered buying the bass to harvest them, if that was the thinking.
i got the bass. body is plywood, that's just laminate glued on top of it. someone went trough a lot of work to make it convincing. neck has stamped "sr600 #2" ? anyway, those basstech pickups are great. it was worth it.
No way on earth is the body plywood. That's an ash top and back. If there's a core material (doesn't looke like there is), it's probably maple.
isn't the whole wood pattern on the body painted? it looks that way to me, regardless of the fact that i have no idea what woods ibanez uses, and in how many pieces they make their bodies.
it's laminated with something and then painted. and then ruined with that horrible brown stripe. i know it's plywood, cos i've seen it when i removed the neck. but bass is ok, a little fret buzz around 12th, 13th and 14th fret. seems the problem is with bad fretwork - someone sanded the frets 1-14th and now 15th, 16th and so on, are too high. but that's nothing that can't be fixed.
The dark stripe down the middle is absolutely painted. And a bad job at that. But I have no reason to think that the grain pattern is painted on. I've never heard that Ibanez did that.
its the older mij passive ibanez sr600. you could see the poor aftermarket routing in the middle pickup and the scar on the switch the spec varies along the year
will upload photos and video soon. modding was done really sloppy . but, hey, i paid around 80$ for it, so i don't mind.
That is definitely not a real wood anything. Looks like someones attempt to make it look like maple. It would have looked more like natural wood if they had used wood grain contact paper. That looks hideous. But for 80 bucks...
