Guys can you please show me pics of your red jazz basses?
I'm trying to figure out what is the best looking pickguard on a red jazz bass like this:
    (maybe a black one?)

IMHO tort looks a lot better on a black or sunburst bass. Tort on black is VERY VERY cool. My next bass may well be this combo.

For red, I'd go either plain white or plain black. If it's a dark red, go black. If it's a lighter red, go white.
  5. A minty off-white kinda colour would be nice for vintage charm. White pearloid, too.

    Unchain I've seen footage.

Black. Black black black. Put a black guard on. Black. Almost a pastel black. You can see yourself in....the pickguard. I think it looks like death. Simple, classic, elegant.

Black pickguards are simply awesome on red jazzes.

I can think of no greater sexually appealing bass than a black pickguard on a red J-bass, with a maple neck and black block inlays.

Black. Solid black, not a black white black. If you get a 3 ply, a thick Sharpie works great to black out the white ply. Just go over it twice and let it dry. Stays on great. And its cheaper than custom ordering a solid black pickguard.
If you do order one though, get a "matte" finish solid black. That would be good looking.
Alot of bassists really under estimate the look of a black pickguard on any color bass.
I think the pearloids are over used and too common now.
Oh, and put some black pickguard screws on too. It will give it that clean look from afar. :hyper:

I had a red Mexican Deluxe Active 5 string Jazz with a tortoise pickguard. It looked very nice.

I don't want to rain on the pickguard parade, but you need to keep in mind that since your Jazz is MIM, aftermarket pickguards might not fit properly. Depending on how old your bass is, the front pickup might be wider than the one on an MIA Jazz and the screw holes might not line up exactly.
