This is why I don't like him (besides the fact I think he's an awful bassist)

I believe that's the Repressed Feelings Expressed As Anger technique.

What technique is that? An out of control convulsive movement, i.e. a fit of emotion.

Or it could be just noise.

ah, so this is what people mean when they say someone's playing is too cerebral. :D

I hope he didn't hurt himself.

In all seriousness....that genre demands showmanship as well as musicality. It's part of the required image.

Ya, really. Everyone needs to mellow out a bit. God forbid someone tries to put on a show. I wonder whose opinion Jason cares about more...a stadium full of metalheads or the boring shoegazers on Talkbass.

I'm going to have to assign homework. I want everyone of you who complained about Jason to do something pointless and totally self-aggrandizing at your next gig.

I watched the whole viddy. I've spent most of my life playing jazz, prog, classical, blues, bluegrass, and some 20 other genres that don't have labels. While not my favorite bass solo of all time, I found it to be typical of the teen-related "I love hardcore crap" genre. But what I mean is, it wasn't that bad. It wasn't great, but I could cite you 100 examples of better-selling music that's worse.

  14. Wow!
  15. That's the solo he played on the Live S**t: Binge and Purge box set they (MetallicA) recorded in Mexico City, after he plays an extended version of the My Friend of Misery opening riff.

Thanks for posting the video, I enjoyed it. Some of ya'll need to chill out it's entertainment.

I've been known to do the slamming a fist across the strings technique.

That headbutt move is pretty beastly though.

  19. I think it's called play and punch the crap out of ya bass...

By the way... Is there anyone here who can clarify the tempo of Jason's 32nd note phrases ???

....speaking of noise, does Eric dolphy's out to lunch capture anyone's imagination...Lol... Sorry people , just had to add something. , I am not a Jason fanboy but I can at least respect his commitment and playing of the bass..
