I'm just a weird dude. My musical focus changes to often anymore. I'm in a great Americana band with great players and play nice plain bass straight thru to the amp. But inside I need to make some noise ,experiment with sound and get into a side project doing so. This started when I was younger digging effects, experimental music and noise really anything weird. I got a chance for a short time to play in a side band using effects and volume and loved it. So that bug is scratchin again. I am now hopelessly hooked on pedals, fuzz being my drug of choice and somehow I have three already. It has opened a new world on bass playing for me and I now I enjoy going into my studio and playing thru pedals for hours. Before this my basses sat and I played more guitar. So in a way it's great but it's costing me. Anyone here like this? I am also really digging all the YouTube videos like Fuzzwars and finding new sites on fuzz and pedals. This has also opened me up to a world of new bands and music which I enjoy allot. This is something I really needed for I had that flat ho-hum feeling about my music once again. Suddenly I feel awake.
Ya know what's fun? When your guitar player makes some off handed, passive-aggressive comment about bass players using effects... And without comment you look him straight in the eye, gently lean over and stomp on that nasty little fuzz anyways. Cause this is just a cover band and if I want some bass fuzz on 'Them Changes', then I'm gonna have me some fuzz on 'Them Changes'. Gotta make sure to stare him straight in the eyes when you engage the fuzz... The sensation is sublime.
Gotta have the fuzz bro. It's always on my bored even the polite church setup gets some fuzz. Fuzz is love, fuzz is life
I have a sit in this coming week with a very dark and gloomy drone band. There is already a bass player but they are open to anything to add a layer to their music. Their bassist goes clean adding just a chorus and I can hear a big low layer of fuzz droning under the chords. Not sure what will work or how it will go but I am excited for the possibilities.
So far a swollen pickle and two that are discontinued from a local maker, Old school effects tone cranker and fong fuzz. I got a deal on the last two from the company who is letting all effects line go for less than half the price.
