What the heck kind of bass is this ???

I'm thinking Ampeg scroll bass. Google it and see if that isn't it.

Yep, specifically, that's an Ampeg AUB-1 Scroll Bass from 1966. It's a rare one, too. Ampeg only made a couple of them in that color scheme. It's white with copper-colored trim. We've talked about the rare white ones in the Love Of Ampegs thread. I had one of them here in my shop for some work a while back.

 

BTW, Bruce is "The Man" as far as those are concerned. I have the honor of owning one of his. I have a pretty large collection, from cheap Korean axes to pre-CBS Fenders. His has the best craftsmanship I've ever witnessed. By far.
