What the hell?

  1. A pop up just appeared on the bottom of my screen. But it wasn't the popup itself, just the tab that appears near the toolbar when you open a program up. It said 'www.enelson...' something or other. It did it the other day too. ***?

Dude, your computer seems to be containing a lot of spyware. There are a few things you can do:

    -Stop downloading from Kazaa

-Stop watching porn downloaded from Kazaa

    -Stop visiting porn sites

-Don't open anything that you don't trust or that is send to you by someone you don't know.

    -Don't open fwd's

-Scan your computer with Adaware and SeeknDestroy. If these progs find spyware but can't remove it, go to regedit and do it manually.

    -Get a pop-up killer

-Go to "execute", the third icon in your start menu, looks like
a sand-glass and a little window, I don't know what it's called in english, and type MSCONFIG , a menu should pop up. Go to "Start up", far left menu, you should get a list with all the programs that run if you put your computer on. Look for programs you don't know and try to find out where they are on your computer.

-if things get out of hand you can always reformat, but I'd keep that as a last option, unless you have a network, and you can transfer all you files to another computer for a while.

    -stop watching por..oh wait :D

    Hope this helps, maybe
  3. I'm not watching porn! I have Adware spyware remover, is there another FREE one I can download? Then I'd have two.

It's probably one of those one-pixel GIF's. Easiest way to close it, is to right click on the bottom tab, and select "close". It should go away, that way. If not, then AdAware SE Personal Edition is probably a good first line of defense. You can download it for free from lavasoftusa.com.

Ati2mdxx.exe : file name can be used by spyware or adware programs to decept user. We advice you to scan your computer and eliminate possible threats.

    What is it?
    ATI Task Icon - atiptaxx.exe

    What does it do?
atiptaxx.exe - It's basically just that little ATI icon in the tray at the bottom right. You don't need to have this running unless you like something that it provides. I don't so I disable this.

To turn it off go to Display Properties -> Settings -> Advanced -> Options and uncheck the box for Enable ATI taskbar icon application .

    Virus Precaution:
The original atiptaxx.exe from ATI gets placed at C:\WINDOWS\System32\atiptaxx.exe . If you find it anywhere else then you should be suspicious for sure.

You'll want to keep an eye on this google search for any known viruses. At this time I have not found ANY viruses that run themselves using this filename. All of the results currently affect this file in some way, but do not actually run as this filename.

    Behold the miracle of google
  11. I scanned my computer several times this morning. It found LOADS of tracking cookies and data miners.......and they'd all got in WITHIN ONE DAY. :-O

    BUT - from Audit MY PC.com :

ati2mdxx.exe - Here is the scoop on ATI Mode change utility. The big question: what is ati2mdxx.exe and is it spyware, a trojan and if so, how do I get rid of ATI Mode change utility?

ati2mdxx.exe (ATI Mode change utility) - Details
This process provides a system tray icon using which you can change various settings of your ATI video card. If you do not have an ATI video card or do not use this utility, you should stop this process.

ati2mdxx.exe is an application that does NOT appear to be a security risk

The Spy Bot database currently registers ati2mdxx.exe to ATI technologies.

This is part of ATI video card drivers.

Look into getting Spybot-Search and Destroy and Spyware Blaster. I think they are both available, free, from majorgeeks.com. If not, google those names. I use both of those plus Ad-Aware and Norton Internet Security 05, and I do not have any problems.

Nick, go download Spybot (freeware). Run it in *safe mode*, then be *sure* you use the program's "immunize" function before you go back on-line. That'll help prevent reinfestation.

I use these three anti-spyware products on a regular basis, and never have a problem with spyware any more (even with porn sites ;) ) :

    Adaware SE

I would remove all other anti-spyware programs from my machine. A lot of them are actually a form of spyware themselves!
  16. OK I'm downloading Spybot. It won't clash with Ad-aware SE personal will it?
  17. Spybot isn't working..... it can't find the WDENGINE.dll component. It wants me to re0install it. How do I do this?
