What tuning????? Please help!

    What is the best tuning to use when playing with a guitar player in drop D for a 5 string bass???? I'm so confused!

    You should be able to just play in standard (BEADG) tuning. The reason most people buy five strings is so they don't have to down-tune for drop-D.

    Well yeah, but it is nice to have that open D string if you're changing chords really fast. Should I tune Bdadg??

    That's the p***y way, man! Tune it BEADG and do your stuff! Guitarists generally use dropped-D cuz they're lazy. You're not lazy, are you?

    LOL, man I tried doing it that way once, and some of our stuff is just really hard to play that way. I'm not lazy it's just that it takes a heck of a lot of finger work to play some of that in standard tuning.
