What type of metal is used for Schaller Machine Heads

Discussion in 'Luthier's Corner' started by skiman, Aug 22, 2007.

  1. Hello, I did a search and came up with nothing. I figured this would be the best forum to ask. I also did a search on the Schaller site and they look like they would be the BMFL ref no 545 which would make them nickel. I tried to e-mail them but it bounced and when I tried to e-mail the site administrator that bounced also.

Why I need to know is the elephant ear is a little loose and vibrates. I need to get it tack welded. I've been duct taping it for the last year but I'm going back to round wounds and want to fix it, my Harley mechanic can do it but he needs to know so he uses the right temp and solder.

I just wanted to see if I could find out from someone here. If it makes any difference the machines would have been bought around 1988.

    Thanx in advance, Skiman
