What type of player do you admire most?

  1. I really strive for the Colin Greenwood/Roger Waters style of bass playing. I don't want to be flashy, but I want to play exactly what the songs needs (I hate to use that cliche) without sticking to eigth notes on the root. I really admire both of those guys for coming up with great lines without overbearing the listener.

I admire bassists like McCartney, John Paul Jones, Jeff Ament and Robert Deleo...those who lay back AND step up sometimes, and thy always get through and sound great...
  6. Colin Greenwood is the bassist for Radioihead.

If you haven't heard of them, they're like the Pink Floyd of the present.

He is a legend, and a very humble man - the best combination.

Like all the posters above, I admire guys that groove. I like bassists if they do what´s best for the song.

I don't know, I have this thing for electric fretless players... Jaco, Manring, Willis, Jones, Glenn... maybe it's just that I think the sound of a properly played fretless beats everything else.

I admire any player who plays appropriately for the situation. If he's a groove player, play a great groove. If you're gonna do the solo thing, play something interesting and well written or go back and be a groove player again because you probably aren't a very good solo player. Know what I mean?
