Perusing the GC used inventory, I came across this yesterday listed in 'Fair' condition:

And feeling a bit impulsive/stupid, it has been bought. After the order I called the GC and they said it had already been pulled so got no information at all from the store.

No picture, but made the executive decision that a Fender standard jazz bass with case at this price seemed like a good idea.

Even if it's in fair condition.

    And purple.

Hmm. Well- it made sense to me at the time anyway. Now not sure.

Taking bets on what is likely going to show up... vote and I'll update when it arrives.

I didn't vote because I wasn't sure about purple, I Googled "purple jazz bass" and I liked what I saw... So good for you. :)

That will be good for your Prince tribute.

  8. MIM late 90s early 00s... Should be nice depending on what they mean by fair condition.

I went to vote for "something purple" but I didn't see that on the poll. ;)

I had a MIM Strat from that vintage (2000) - it looked purple under some lights, blue under others. It was magic! Played nice, too.

Probably one horned flying purple fender beater, but good luck!

Maybe it’s the Burgundy mist color ...some peeps think it is more purple ..that would be pretty sweet I think! :)

I did the same thing. Thought some almost looked like a cobalt blue which I liked. Notwithstanding this Google research, I have also mentally prepared for an aftermarket spray can purple paint job.

I have done very similar things.
Not much can go wrong-- by "fair condition", GC might very well mean that it has a straight neck and perfectly good electronics... but a visible scratch somewhere. :rollno:
Even if the truss rod is shot, or the bridge is missing a saddle or something, you can always replace the parts. You can replace EVERY part of a Fender bass, and $199 is not bad at all. It's a fun adventure!
    Let us know what happens!

By the way, I have a 2002 Standard Jazz Bass, and a 2005 Standard Precision Bass, and both are wonderful. There's a good chance that yours will be, too.

Voted for 'Good' to embrace my new found optimism.

A friend of mine had a MIM Jazz Bass in purple it was a very good instrument. I regret not buying it after she gave up playing and offered it. With any luck you'll have something similar or potentially the same one :nailbiting:o_O:bassist:

Hoping the neck is in good shape. If not, guess I'll get my first truss-rod repair experience/fail, and then purple Frankenbass time. There's gotta be some demand out there for beat up purple Frankenbasses, right?

    Ummm, right?

    Cue the crickets...

If you like everything else on the bass, you can buy a replacement neck from Fender. It will fit perfectly, and have the logo, etc.
