I was being genuine! I grew up in Rochester. Assumed you're a Bills fan, too, from your location.
I moved here from Toronto around 1990. I was actually a Houston Oilers fan during the Bills SuperBowl years, lol. My man Warren Moon was a heck of a QB down in Texas.
And the verdict is...
It's been 13 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hurry up, aaaaaggghh!
My count up
Apologies for delay- people are making me work.
Don't tease me bro!
This is the greatest troll in the history of this site.
First the BAD:
Someone wrote "ANALOG" on the headstock with a Sharpie (Why would anyone do this? What the H-E double hockey sticks?!)
There is an 'X' shaped scratch/gouge in the fretboard but on 17th fret
Super scratched up finish with what looks like some kind of a hole
Scratched and dented everywhere.
Strap button moved to the back of the bass
Tons of buckle rash. And other rash.
Finish pretty well beat to hell
It is not the right color for covering Prince tunes
Color is more that wine red color than purple
Relic'd! (VERY Relic'd.)
Neck feels really good!, doesn't appear to be twisted (HUGE)
Case looks solid (albeit cosmetically worked over, the interior is good and protects the instrument well)
Tuners and hardware look pretty good
Frets appear to have plenty of life
Will the truss rod turn?
Will I keep it?
Not sure yet. Something probably worth about what I paid though!
More photos coming...
Photos attached- yay!
I can't believe it, but I think this was totally accurately priced by GC. $199 for a nice case and a beat-up and defaced--- but playable---MIM Fender. I think that makes sense.
The Guitar Center near me would have priced it at $350, I have no doubt.
I really liked that part when you called the GC after buying it and they said 'oh sorry all packed up and nobody remembers a thing about it'. Riiiiiiiiiiight.
I bet the gouge in the fretboard fits a Phillips head screwdriver.
Almost 10 years newer than I thought at 2005.
Tuned in for the post plug in review
There is a thread around here somewhere regarding Sharpie removal
I'd rock it. Like the color. Never have to worry if someone walks off with it. Get back in touch with us about the electronics....You weren't ripped off.....well..... unless the electronics are trashed.
10 years ago, I'd say you paid just about what it was worth.
Today however, $200 for any MIM fender that isn't completely trashed is a good deal. $200 with case qualifies as a very-good-deal these days even with the heavy playwear. It's a 2005, so there's a possibility it might even have better pickups in it than the crappy ceramics that came in the 90's MIM standards. I always liked the Red Wine color that the MIM's had back then.
The "analog" will come off with rubbing alcohol and a bit of elbow grease. If it's absorbed into the poly, hitting it with just a touch of super-fine sandpaper (after the alcohol treatment) should get rid of any remaining ink.
Looks like a screwdriver mark on the fret board! As long as the truss works, I'd be ok with that. I love midnight wine!
