I have had good luck ordering from Acme Guitar works. They give you a choice of wire (teflon- or cloth-insulated) and include orange cap capacitors in your choice of two values. I prefer using the teflon-coated wire -- I find it easier to work with.

RH (or anybody), what would be the sonic difference between the two different capacitors?

Acme offers capacitor values of 0.047 and 0.1 uf. The 0.047 is more "normal" for contemporary basses. The 0.1 takes away more treble when you roll off the tone control. I use the 0.1 in my P bass, because I want it to sound more thumpy, and the 0.047 in J basses.

Thank you RH, it all makes sense to me now!

    :hyper:

I'd guess that the 0.047 would be standard for a Jazz Bass..?

  9. thanks i just ordered this kit with the teflon.
    and the .047 cap
