What Wood

Discussion in 'Luthier's Corner' started by Robert Spencer, Sep 26, 2010.

  1. I have two Hohner acoustic/elect basses. One is a HAB-40 and seems to be made of lesser quality materials. The back looks like plywood. The other is the same as this one:

with much nicer wood in it. The top is blond but the back and sides are quite red. Can anyone tell me the two woods used in its construction? Thanks & take care. Bob

Bob, can you post more pics? Those are tiny samples which makes it more difficult. Post multiple pics of different angles, areas of the guitar, etc.

  3. I can do that by tomorrow. The sides and back are the same wood (as that shwn in the sample photo). I thought that the red color would be a dead give away for those familiar with common guitar wood types. Thanks & take care. Bob
