Hey everyone, I'm sure there have been many threads like this on TB, but I wanted to find out about different bassists preferences! So, say you've just won a competition at NAMM, where you ideal rig will be given to you for free. You have to choose wisely, and it can be anything! Want a vintage Gibson Thunderbird running into a hand-wired, steel plated Ampeg combo? Why the hell not! You can choose: Five basses Three effects One preamp One amp head and cab P.S I'd prefer it if you didn't say something like a $500,000 Jerzy Drozd which is made from Jesus' fingernails
Mine would be: Basses: Dingwall ABZ 6 Natural (with Darkglass Tone Capsule, swamp ash body, wenge neck, Hipshot D-Tuner), Turan Whale 6 (subtle flame maple top, korina body, bubinga neck), Prat 18-String (korina body, figured walnut top, alder neck), Fender Custom Shop Fretless PJ (3-colour burst, ebony board, maple neck), and Ken Lawrence 11-String (copy of Jean Baudin's, but without the inlay). Effects: Darkglass B7K, Darkglass Super Symmetry compressor, Earthquaker Devices Disaster Transport Sr. Preamp: Axe FX XL+ Amp head: A modified Ampeg SVT CL that fits in a rack mount, leading into a Zilla 6x10 cab with a black matte metal grill and white leather casing).
Mine is probably this: Warrior 5 String Bolt-on(Will be here tomorrow) Ric 4003 G&L LB-100 Traynor YBA-300 Traynor 4X12 Cab DarkGlass B3K So Basically I have my Dream Rig Minus the 4X12 and B3K. If the Warrior 5'r is even close to as sweet as my 4 String Warrior,I'll be set for life.
Dream rig My buddy has this beater 69 p bass. It looks like its been through a woodchipper and someone painted the name of their band on it...but ummagaw it plays and sounds amazing..so....that For my effects I'll say. Cw or green muff,my s.hawk 3 to boost the muff and a future impact to get disgustingly synthy/grindy..(when they come out) Pre..I'm actually having a tube pre built for me by rst custom ..its based on the front end of a green/matamp w the tone stack before the gain stage.. I'll post pics when it's done. cab...fearful 1515/66 w faitals cause its sick and I could make u poop w my lows Amp...maybe an old orange slave unit. Pure, clean ,huge ..
Basses: Rob Allen MB2 6 string, CB polyester coated fretless with Bartolini P/J pickups, Stambaugh 4 string with Kahler EMG P/J pickups and Pope pre, Conklin fretless with Dymondwood fingerboard and piezo, Peavey Cirrus 6 string fretted. Effects: chorus/flange, distortion, octave Pre-amp: not sure how much I really need one Amp: Ampeg SVT4Pro to a 4x10 and 115.
Heck, I'm pretty much there. 2x Dingwall Combustions Spector Euro 5 LX EBMM Bongo 5 HS, fretless (unlined) [I would add a 6 string Dingwall] Plugged into Axe-Fx II (amp/cab/fx modeler) Which goes to QSC PLX1804 + Audio Kinesis ThunderChild 118 for on-stage monitoring + FOH (The only thing I don't own from the above is the 6 string Dingwall)
Well, my two gigging bands right now are a hard rock (ish?) band and a heavy metal band. Overall, I'm pretty thrilled with the setup. It covers quite a lot of ground, and easily nails tones that are "in my head".
I have my Ampegs and my RG Custom Bass. I'm going to order a lefty Prat soon. The B15 is a '66 with vintage NOS tubes and the SVTII is loaded with Svetlana Sed 6550's and 12ax7's. The cab is a Low Down Sound loaded with the Faital Neo 15pr400 driver. The RG bass is loaded with EMG'S and an 18v preamp. I also own a G&L LB100 not pictured.
