Strings I might not it otherwise buy/try. A fistful of picks. Sometimes they have used pedals under glass, I might crapshoot one. A few speakon connectors. I guess I'd nickel and dime it away on trinkets

    There is a used 3/4 scale Precision-style SX on GC.com for $79.

I'd therefore get a whole bass.

Rather than waste it, I'd put it toward something I really want/need.

Sorry, just tryin' to be practical.

Put it towards something used(primarily)that's cool or desirable, or better yet, hit all the GC's in your flight path and scour the clearance bins for stuff that's relevant to your needs(don't be buying just 'cause it's cheap/blow out). That way, you profit, they don't. I've lucked out string-wise many times, but then again, I'm not that picky as far as brands go, just gauge. Look for slight 'fixer-upper' stuff with a low price tag that can be flipped or salvaged. I once came across a Mitchell(remember those?) 2x12" 'sandcab' priced at $80(probably because it was not a 'hip' vintage brand, and they just wanted to move it). Had a scoop port at the bottom, but was essentially the top half of an angled 4x12". I had one of those little mirrors on a telescoping handle with me, and with that I looked inside to discover a pair of old Celestion Greenbacks. Nabbed the cab, sold the Greenies for a nice sum, popped some less than stellar Emi's in, sold it on CL for a C note. Granted, that all may be a bit more work than you might want to put in, but with a little effort you can sometimes beat GC at their own game.

i went for the seymour duncan MM pickup, soon to be installed in my second mikro, and i spent the rest getting my husband a couple sets of guitar strings.

thanks for all the suggestions - some really good ones, too, but since a MM pickup was on my list, i figured this was a good opp to get it.

Whatever you decide to spend it on, I'd suggest doing it sooner rather than later.

Same thing I did with the fifty buck gift card I got at Christmas.... Give it to a young person that has more patience than me.... I have an Internet-shopping mental block.

Seriously?? I'd try real hard to swap it for a $100 Sam Ash card. Honestly, I hardly ever go to the GCs here; they're 2/3x as far from my house as Sam Ash; I don't think I can face having to give a Bass Strings 101 class to another pimply-faced mouth-breather at the GC string counter ever again; and I'm a lefty, so there's never anything there for me, anyway. Actually, A Wal Mart gift card would be even better...;)
