I recently picked up a used jazz bass that has a maple fretboard, candy apple red finish and lace sensor pickups (active that can be run passive), and a beefed up bridge. The serial number is N000384 and it's american.. Does this mean it was produced in March of 1984? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
That sounds pretty close. You may want to check on the FDP, the Fender Discussion Page. Bill Bolton is the MAN that knows the Fender dating inside and out. But I think that you are pretty close, otherwise.
Well if they do basses the same way they do guitars, The N0 means 1990. Don't know how to tell what month though. Hope this helps.
I'm not sure if they still have it, but at one point Fender had a search engine on their web site where you could punch in your SN and it would retun a date or time period, depending on how accurately Fender was issuing SNs at that particular time. That's how I found out my '77 was a '77! For a new bass, it should be extremely accurate. Check out www.fender.com to see if this feature is still available. Good Luck!
