... Tiran Porter? If you don't know where he is now, don't answer. If you don't know who he is, don't ask.
Okay, munji. As you requested, I won't respond to your post because I don't have a clue one way or the other, and I wouldn't want to clutter your thread with useless posts.
Not to be useless, but the most recent thing I can find looks like he appeared with the Doobies in WilkesBarre around 7/18/2001... http://web.theweekender.com/content/weekender/2001/07/18/fye/18DOOVIES.htm Prior to that, it looks like he was going to play a show with "The Sons of Champlin" in January 2000... http://www.sonsofchamplin.com/_disc1/00000197.htm Not too much recent info on him out there... mostly Doobies history and such. I do know that he didn't play on the Doobies' latest release 'Sibling Rivalry'... -robert edit - spelling error
on that note, anybody see the coming attractions for "behind enemy lines"? they had the main character singing that song as he was trudging around, but in the movie i don't remember seeing it. bizarre.
Thanks for the input ... it's more than I expected. Especially rllefebv's links ... they're a hoot. First, that goofball John McPhee isn't an original Doobie, so I'm don't know how credible the Tiran Porter thing is. Maybe they don't know Skylark when they see him. Second, if Porter's playing with some derelict out of Moby Grape, things are a lot worse than I had hoped. I saw those guys open for the Doobies two years ago, and they renewed my hope that someday my band would play on that stage. Man, they REEKED! There were two paramedic wagons on standby in case one of the band members sustained a myocardial infarction, or any of the audience members started puking uncontrollably. There. Now I feel better.
So i accidentally posted this in the Double bass side, and they got pissed. Are any of you older guys like me influenced by the playing of Tiran Porter from the Doobies? I was a big fan in their heyday, and I though his groove was tight, and he was cool with the Mutton chops and that beret he wore. Anyone else? Young guys- Don't forget your history!! Check this dude out.
...and neither was Tiran Porter! BADDA-BING. Now I feel better! Anyway, yes, TP was definitely one of my favorites from way back...Rockin' R&B & a little 'jazzy'. Nice tone, too. I keep on sayin' this- "Another Park, Another Sunday"...great, tasteful tune! BTW, what was the name of that band 'that goofball' John McFee was in with Huey Lewis(pre-The News)? Was it Clover?
Rise... rise from your grave, ancient thread! Jamming "The Captain And Me" right now, great player. So what happened to him in the last 13 years since this thread?
