What's a good book for a beginning upright player?

    Chuck Sher publishes my book, WALKING BASSICS:The Fundamentals of Jazz Bass Playing.
    Well, what are you trying to do? At some point, and it's generally better to do it sooner rather than later (take it from a guy who waited till "later"), you're going to need to address physical approach to the instrument with an actual human being sitting in the same room with you.
