whats a really good solo song?
if you mean totally solo, almost everyone agrees on classical thump (vic wooten) and portrait of tracy (jaco)... if you mean a song with a bass solo in it, the who's "my generation" and rancid's "maxwell murder" come to mind.
I love Victor Bailey's disks, and Marcus Millers first two, for bass solos in a song. I will get burned for this but Vic's Show of Hands bores me to death, he is a great player but every time I try to listen to that disk. . . it gets turned off.
Judging by your name, you like metal. I really like "Stein's Theme" by Project 86, even though you probably haven't heard of them. Another that everybody's heard is "N.I.B." by Black Sabbath.
Anestesia (Pulling Teeth) by Cliff Burton (Metallica)
is a complete solo with drums in the last bit. Amazing tune.
Aeroplane by the chili peppers has an awesome bass solo not to mention a great bassline all the way through.
I agree with anestesia, very great tune and long solo.
one big one comes to mind: Rancid's "Axiom"
Incubus's battlestar inter.... (don't know the rest of it)
don´t forget "Maxwell Murder"
Incubus - Battle Star Scralachtica
"A Show Hands" - Victor Wooten
"The Enourmous Room" - Michael Manring
Two great solo pieces.
"School Days" - Stanley Clarke
"Portrait of Tracy" - Jaco (2nd Vote)
The intro to "Fish On" by Primus is a kickass little bass solo. Also listen to "Severed" or "Under My Skin" by Mudvayne, great solo bass breaks.
oh yes the dance of eternity by dream theater. great solo. too much distortion, but good
also, the song metropolis pt1 by dream theater
A pretty good one is porno creep by korn, kinda easy though.
the bass in everything dies by type o negative is good, but i don't really know if you can call it a solo
